Chicago | The Langham
- DETAILS, DETAILS -
TYPE: Luxurious city hotel.
ROOMS: 300+ rooms and suites, with cream base colors and dark wood accents. Rooms are spacious by city standards, especially the huge Langham Club rooms. Bathrooms are impressive, with a rain shower and soaking tub, not to mention plenty of marble. A pane of clear glass separating the bedroom and the bathroom frosts with the touch of a button. Bluetooth-enabled Bose speakers allow you to play your own music. All in all, the rooms seamlessly blend the modern with the traditional, creating unstuffy luxury thats both substantive and stylish.
POOL/GYM: Large fourth-floor pool with all the amenities. The adjacent gym is one of the more well-equipped hotel gyms I've seen, with a plethora of not only cardio equipment, but free weights and weight machines.
RESTAURANT: The onsite restaurant, Travelle, serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Chef Tim Graham makes special use of Middle Eastern and Arabian spices, while staying true to Mediterranean classics. The 1,600-bottle wine list boasts something for everyone. Though the food and ambience are luxurious and high-end, there are no white tablecloths and the experience attempts to be more laid-back.
VIBE: Secluded luxury with a sense of place.
BAR: Located in a corner of the building, Travelle's bar offers both excellent cocktails and an excellent view. The bar's amazing decor strikes a perfect balance between old-world and modern era. Travelle also has a private wine room, with space for ten.
SPA: Langham's Chuan Spa is a private oasis, offering a full range of the typical spa services. Treatments begin with the Chuan Bathing Ritual, a process which begins with a steam in the sauna, followed by an aromatherapy shower, allowing you to relax before the treatment actually begins. Amenities extend into guest rooms, where Chuan-branded toiletries are in abundance.
WIFI: Complimentary throughout.
KIDS: Chicago is a great city for kids, and The Langham makes family stays comfortable, with experiences like movie night and milk and cookies delivered to your room.
LOCATION: Chicago's Near North Side, within walking distance to major landmarks and the popular River North neighborhood, though the area around the hotel is a touch quieter.
- A few things -
Chicago is a personal favorite, and The Langham is the perfect residence in the heart of downtown. Its location strikes the right balance between convenience and calm, with a minutes-long walk to the bustling River North district, Millennium Park, Navy Pier, and a gorgeous location right on the Chicago River.
The hotel itself is luxurious without being pretentious. The service is attentive without being intrusive; housekeeping staff returns nightly to turn down your bed, leaving water bottles on the nightstand. The rooms themselves are large, some with separate vanity areas. The views are amazing, with views over the river, downtown, or Lake Michigan beyond.
The Langham Club, located on the top floor of the hotel, is an amazing retreat, one of the most impressive club lounges I've ever seen. With a full breakfast buffet and nightly hors d'oeuvres, and light snacks throughout the day
