Puerto Rico | Dorado Beach
- DETAILS, DETAILS -
TYPE: A beach resort (with a whole lot to offer besides just sun and sand!)
ROOMS: Accommodation at Dorado Beach is spread out over the property, allowing for privacy and exclusivity. Rooms are contemporary, and start at a generous 941 square feet. Outdoor rain showers, private balconies and plunge pools, and beach access are just a few of the amenities. Guests have their choice of everything from suites, to two to five bedroom residences, to penthouse units and the ultra-luxurious Su Casa villa.
POOL/GYM: There are two pool areas at Dorado Beach, and both feature private cabanas for rent. My favorite is the infinity edge Positivo pool, just steps from the hotel lobby. Attendants come around to offer chilled, fresh coconuts, and if coconut water isn't your thing they're happy to fill them with your favorite alcoholic beverage instead.
RESTAURANT: There are multiple dining venues onsite, including the more casual Encanto Beach Club Bar and Grill and the Positivo Sandbar, each offering the freshest local ingredients. Cooking classes are offered at La Cocina Gourmet, each class being a different theme. My favorite dining venue on property is Mi Casa restaurant by legendary chef Jose Andres. The squid ink pasta with head-on shrimp, cuttlefish and alioli prepared table side is the best, especially when washed down with a signature cocktail.
VIBE: Natural, calm, private and rustic in the most luxurious way.
BAR: There are multiple bars at Dorado Beach, but the bar at Mi Casa is the highlight. It's an interactive experience where guests can closely watch the bartender create intricate and delicious cocktails. The couches closest to the window provide the ultimate spot to watch the sun set over the ocean.
SPA: The spa at Dorado Beach is one of the best that I have ever encountered. It's a five-acre oasis with a pineapple garden and treehouse treatment rooms. Outdoor showers, plunge pools and a steam room are available for guests to use before or after treatment. Local herbs and botanicals are incorporated into every treatment. Don't miss the Deep Blue massage, Ritz-Carlton's take on a traditional deep tissue massage. It was incredible!
WIFI: Complimentary throughout.
KIDS: Yes, the hotel welcomes families in addition to couples and larger groups.
LOCATION: The hotel is located on Puerto Rico's Caribbean coast, within a 50-acre island retreat that once belonged to Laurance S. Rockefeller. The property is surrounded by lush tropical forests and peaceful beaches. San Juan International Airport (SJU) receives flights from many US cities, making Dorado Beach the perfect long weekend escape.
- A few things -
Dorado Beach offers much more than your average island resort. Yes, it has beautiful beaches and pools, but there is so much for guests to take advantage of onsite. Activities include golf, tennis, the Rockefeller Nature Trail, which is perfect for running and biking, and the famous Watermill, a $12 million venue complete with slides, a lazy river and multiple pools. There are also water sports available for guests, and restaurants and cultural activities outside of the resort complex in Old San Juan and Condado. The hotel is just 30 minutes from the airport, making it incredibly accessible. Whether it's a romantic getaway, a weekend trip with a few other couples, or a family retreat, Dorado Beach exceeds expectations.
